Bio
"Circle their name in red pen, tear out this section, set a memo on your phone - whatever, just make sure you give these guys a listen!" - Brighton Unsigned Magazine Jan/Feb 2013 "Fragile Creatures move seamlessly between genres with the credibility of genuinely talented and informed musicians" Brighton Unsigned Magazine Nov/Dec 2012 "the band has successfully reminded the UK of the beauty of original guitar pop music...at the same time revealing the uniqueness that they bring to such a broad genre" Sound And Motion Magazin Oct 2012 Fragile Creatures debut single, double a-side Dear Michael / She Makes Me Nervous was released digitally on 11th June 2012 gaining them rave reviews and national radioplay from Absolute Radio and BBC Introducing as well as many local stations. The band spent most of 2012 commuting to Normandy, France to work with producer Andy Lyden (Fela Kuti, U2, The Cure). A follow up single is expected early in 2013, with an album due later in the year. In the meantime the band plan to play as many shows as possible, spreading their wings to reach audiences all over the south of England.

Q. How did you first get into playing music?
Adam Kidd: "I had violin lessons from the age of 6 to about 13. I wasn't really into pop music until later on though. When I was 15 my mates asked me to join their band, because they knew my older brother was an amazing lead guitarist and my Dad had been in a band (Red Guitars) in the 80's. I picked up a guitar and taught myself - I didn't know any music apart from an old tape of The Beatles Yellow Submarine and The Italia '90 soundtrack tape by The Three Tenors!!
Q. How long have you been performing?
AK: " I played my first pub gig in 1996! "
Q. How would you describe your sound in one sentence?
AK: "Classic original British song-writing - We're not a genre band, we don't stick to one rhythm or structure, anything goes as long as the melody sticks in your head, the beat gets your foot tapping and the lyrics get your head thinking!"
Q. What makes your music unique?
AK: "We have very diverse influences but we've never tried to sound like anyone else. Our songs do have a consistent sound of their own, even if they differ stylistically, so we have ended up with a sound which is not that easy to categorise and could only ever be us. "
Q. What inspires you to write songs?
AK: "Interesting stories, be they a new scientific theory or a fascinating biography or news story. I've often been drawn to the darker side of humanity, and, having lived through the year 2000, find a fair bit of millennial psychosis invades my thoughts! I think I use my own experiences like some sort of emotional fuel and then disguise the root meaning to my songs with other peoples stories. Writing songs is a bit addictive though, once you've started it's hard to stop, I just pick up my guitar whenever I get the chance and something new quite often comes out of it."
Q. What have been your best and worst gig experiences?
AK: "Singing backing vocals for Thomas White at various summer festivals when he was touring the Maximalist was great fun - we played the main stage at Guilfest just before N-Dubz and I was completely out of my tree! One of the worst shows was with my old band Kiyomori. We were supposed to be playing at this guerrilla free party in Horsham but couldn't find the golf course they were invading. A police car stopped because they could tell we were lost, so we had to improvise and come up with a location they could direct us to which wasn't the site of the party, as the police would have had to kick everyone off site! When we eventually got there we couldn't see much of an audience and half the gear on the stage had already broken... as I climbed onto the stage I broke one of their last remaining cables meaning only one speaker! Within two songs our drummer stormed off and refused to play any longer. The two of us remaining decided to rescue the show by swapping instruments, he got behind the kit and I picked up the bass. We jammed drum'n'bass grooves for a couple of hours and slowly all these hippies emerged from the woods high on ketamin and surrounded us like zombies attempting to dance. It was hilarious but not a good gig!"
Q. If you had to listen to one album for the rest of your life what would it be?
AK: "London Calling - The Clash"
Q. What do you get up to when you’re not making music?
AK: "I like to run - I did the Brighton Marathon a couple of years ago after never having been a sporty person at school. Now I get out and run 6 miles at least once a week. I take photos too and do a bit of freelance graphic design work, but the band is all consuming these days, so don't get much of a chance!"
Q. What are your goals at the moment?
AK: "To finish the recordings we've been working on, release another single, get played on 6Music and book up some festivals for summer 2013... in that order!"
Q. What have you been working on lately? Any new tracks or gigs lined up?
AK: "We've been doing a lot of recording this year. Beside the two tracks we released in June (Dear Michael/She Makes Me Nervous) we have about 8 more songs on the boil. We're planning on releasing a 4-track EP in the Autumn, but ultimately we're working towards our debut album. There's no shortage of material, but we feel we need to raise our profile a bit, so there's an audience for the album when we do release it. In order to do that we'll be playing lots of shows! We're playing our first Camden gig at Bar Solo on Fri 5th October and we're playing an Oxjam Takeover night in Brighton on Sun 21st October at The Hope. Plenty more in the pipeline too!"
Q. What do you think of Unsigned Band Review?
AK: "There seem to be some amazing opportunities on the site if you manage to tap in to them. Hopefully we can!"
Q. What is the name of the last track that you wrote and what is it about?
AK: "Grace - it's about dementia. I wrote it after watching Louis Theroux's recent documentary about it which really moved me., I wrote and recorded the demo very quickly, so it has some quirky structural changes - the chord sequence never repeats in the same way because I'd forgotten the beginning by the time I got to the end, so it kind of reflects that sense of muddled thoughts and memory loss. Grace is not a real person, but a metaphorical character, representing someone who is losing their mind through dementia. I hope I've appropriately sensitive to the subject, I've met people with Dementia before. It's really sad."
Q. What was the music scene like where you grew up?
AK: "It wasn't amazing when Tom and I started playing together as teens, there were only a handful of bands n Brighton. Nowadays the scene is really, really lively - which means a lot of competition!! I don't think there are many bands like us out there though."
