Introduction

Black Sixteen is a London based band, playing delicately heavy modern rock music with keyboards. The debut E.P. was released in February 2012...

Bio

Black Sixteen was formed in London in late 2010 by songwriter Amir Khan (formerly of grunge-rockers 'Unusual Pets') on guitar, accompanied by Matt Burn on the drums, under the temporary moniker of 'Rain Hits Concrete'. The current line-up was completed with the addition of Alex Brock (previously in 'The Moscow Undergound') on bass and Laura Sepp (from Estonian metal outfit 'Label Of Guilt') on ke yboards in early 2011. After a long fruitless search for a frontman, Amir stepped up as lead vocalist because the cathartic nature and content of the songs had evolved to be very personal to him. With his place as frontman confirmed, Black Sixteen was born and the first seeds of the debut E.P. were planted, seeds which matured and came to fruition in early 2012, when the CD hit the printing press. Black Sixteen's style of heart-on-sleeve rock draws from their diverse musical backgrounds and combines elements of all four member's personality and taste, brought together with a united passion for good music. Their influences span a wide range of artists and bands, including Nine Inch Nails, Pixies, Tori Amos, At The Drive-In, The Cure, Alice In Chains, Ministry, Nirvana, Tool, Massive Attack, Faith No More, The Afghan Whigs, The White Stripes, Jimi Hendrix and many more. On the record, as Amir's unashamedly bitter vocals pierce through his grunge-ridden riffs, forming a heavy layer of spite-filled anguish, Laura's delicate, feminine work on the keyboards floats in and out of the mix. Alex's chunky basslines and Matt's urgent beats provide the solid foundations which drive the songs forward while Amir's distorted melodies compliment Laura's ambient atmospherics. All this culminates in a clash between fragility and angst, the sound of destroying something beautiful... Visit www.blacksixteen.com to hear the self-titled debut E.P.
