Q. How did you first get into playing music?

A toy piano I got for Christmas when I was three was my first musical endeavour.

Q. How long have you been performing?

5 years

Q. How would you describe your sound in one sentence?

The sound is dramatic, jazzy and has a carnival-esque fun quality about it, drenched in a whole load of soul.

Q. What makes your music unique?

The vocal melodies and harmonies play a key role in emphasising the evocative and captivating unique nature of the music.

Q. What inspires you to write songs?

Everything.

Q. What have been your best and worst gig experiences?

Best gig experience was playing at The Olympic Park on the Emerging Icons stage. Worst, I wouldn't say the worst but the most random was playing before a modelling dog show, barking dogs throughout your set is the strangest thing.

Q. If you had to listen to one album for the rest of your life what would it be?

Cat Power- You Are Free

Q. What do you get up to when you’re not making music?

I think about making music.

Q. What are your goals at the moment?

Between now and the end of 2012 I want to record with the band, we've reached a stage of content with our sound so we're ready to get it downnnn!

Q. What have you been working on lately? Any new tracks or gigs lined up?

I've been working on a track called 'Fun.' I have a show with the boys on the 1st of November at the 12Bar Club in London, we'll be playing the new song.

Q. What do you think of Unsigned Band Review?

AMAZING for unsigned artist! I advise all my musician friends to join.

Q. What is the name of the last track that you wrote and what is it about?

The last track I wrote was called 'Bang Bang' and it's a story about a love affair that becomes too intense it goes completely wrong.

Q. What was the music scene like where you grew up?

Great! We had a really good local venue, the Tunbridge Wells Forum which I guess inspired a load of youngens to want to pick up an instrument and join a band so that they can perform at the Forum.

  • Nice mood to this song accompanied by interesting lyrics. The chorus went in a completely different direction to what I was expecting. Felt like an odd progression the first time. Not so bad the second time. Structure is good. I feel like it is a bit flat. Could do with working on the dynamics slightly. A good effort.

  • I really enjoyed this track. The strong vocal performance and powerful drums, with the aid of the piano and guitars I found intriguing, the song has an almost mysterious vibe about it.

  • Dark, dramatic track with recognizable and strong vocals. Intrigued see what the live performance and music video would be like.

  • Oooh la la... Annaca is a sassy little one! Dramatic and sensual.. A beautiful, soft, soulful vocal inbetween perhaps Paloma Faith, Imelda May and Amy Winehouse, but 100% unique and stand out.

  • Good song. Annaca 's vocal is strong and interesting, and lyrically this song is very well written. I particularly like how the vocals are layered towards the end of the track... however there's something missing here for me. It needs a boost, the harmonies need to be pushed up a notch. It needs to really swell in the middle eight, become even more dramatic. Thats what i think anyway... Really good start though. I'd be interested to see how the band works live, perhaps its just the production on the track that dulls it down a little.

  • Annaca has a soulful voice - very unique. Very relaxing as well, I like that kind of pleasant music. I'd buy it!

  • She's got a great voice and doesn't over sing. She holds the energy in her vocals - it draws you in and has a subtlety to it. It's one of those songs you need to hear three times! I like the bit about chewing gum...

  • A beautiful, clear, soulful and deep woman's voice. It's sounds great. It's totally intriguing and quite delicious to listen to. It sounds a bit like Adele - some of the slurring of the syllables sounds a lot like Adele, but I think we all always have that awful reflex to categorise by comparison to what we already know, so judging by the kind of quality of the voice and the classiness of the production I think its something that she'll be able to transcend pretty quickly. Annaca - another artist to support my claim that women are still ruling at the moment in pop music.

  • Has the kind of tone similar to that of Amy Winehouse; a really soulful tune.

  • Swept along by a jaunty beat and jolly accordion, this is a ghost story and sea shanty rolled into one. Annaca's mischievous vocal dances through a haunted house where painful memories of a doomed relationship dwell. "There's a place I used to go/But it's not a place you want to see," she sings, before taking us there to have a look anyway. The south coast's answer to The Coral.

  • Annaca's voice has serious allure. I like this and for once it's been accurately described by the Artist herself. Organic, rustic and gypsy jazz. Yep. There's a danger in this style that the songs get a bit similar but I have the feeling Annaca is too canny for that. Very good - I want to see live!

  • Haunted Gorgeous female vocals stretched across a lilting, swelling piano line – which then morphs into a jaunty sea-shanty ten seconds in. Fantastic.

  • Whilst listening to Annaca, I'm transported to a muscle car driving up the west coast of California. For me, it's track that would be well placed on a US TV show soundtrack eg Gossip Girl. I think she has a warm and sultry voice that softens the guitars to make it a light feel-good track.

  • This band have already played V-Festival. I loved the fact you could tell how much they'd played together - a very tight band. In a musical family sense they'd be related to Gogol Bordello, distant cousins for sure, but still related. If you like the idea of gypsy folk, then get everything Annaca have done. • (This is a review for the track "Fall Down" by Jacob Plant, featuring Annaca) A pumping house track explodes into some high-register dubstep squawks. Very much by the numbers, but still very much something you'd hear in a club.

  • Great to see she's been picked up by BBC Introducing! I like her voice and she looks great. Particularly liking the track ‘Embrace'. I'm looking forward to seeing her live.

  • The moment I heard Annaca's voice I was immediatly captivated, she has quite a distinctive voice yet not offensive. The songs on myspace are well written and reasonably well produced I really like "Blood stained", "In Your Heart" and "Embrace" - liking 3 songs from a new unsigned artist is kinda rare as usually at this stage of an artists career most will only have maybe one strong song. Thanks to UBR I booked Annaca for the next ASCAP Industry showcase which takes place on the 3rd of June at the Regal Room. The shows are designed to showcase new talent to a room of music industry (labels, publishers, managers, tastmakers) and although the current musical climate in the UK is very solo female orientated I was still very keen to showcase Annaca as she is distinctive both direction wise and vocally and as a result she can still stand out amongst the competition.
