Bio
Introducing…Elissa Franceschi, a prolific songwriter with a distinctive powerhouse vocal…Named by One Republic’s Ryan Tedder ( ‘Bleeding love’, ‘Halo’ and ‘Apologize’) as one to watch and without the help of Management, Record Labels, Agents or PR- Elissa has built a reputation based on organic, grass roots promotion and haunting live performances. Having previously performed in some of the UK’s most famous venues (Brixton Academy, The Roundhouse, Astoria and Wembley Arena- supporting Paramore and YMA6) Elissa spent the majority of 2012 gigging all over the UK with her live band, and being teamed up with the industry’s hottest songwriting production houses (of Jessie J & Ellie Goulding fame) to co-write for other artists. She was the first artist hand-selected to perform at the Olympics as part of the Emerging Icons search for the UK’s best unsigned talent, Her track ‘Rainbow on fire’ went to Number 14 on the Itunes Singer-Songwriter chart and her single ‘Salt’ was voted Number 1 on the National Student Radio charts. Daniel Powter (‘Bad Day’) thinks she is the next Kate Bush. Absolute Radio predict huge commercial success so what’s next?…Right now in 2013 she is recording and working out a plan of attack for her 4th independent release following 3 successful album releases- ‘Touch’, ‘I Hold My Breath’ and ‘Into the Light’. Taking the DIY approach, she ran a successful Pledge Campaign whereby her FANS themselves will be funding the next record, Pledge hit 120% of it’s target and Elissa in the studio putting the final touches on what she hopes will be game changing songs. You can catch her latest music video for ‘Salt’ on National T.V rotation via BlissTV and Chartshow now, and with over 1 million YouTube hits and a swelling fanbase, Elissa Franceschi is the epitome of her generations DIY approach to the new era music industry. Check out Itunes to purchase tracks from her three albums, 'Touch', 'I hold my breath' and 'Into the Light'. Follow her on Twitter: @Elissa_F

Q. How did you first get into playing music?
I think it’s fair to say that music was a really natural thing that just sort of happened to me, it then became the way I best expressed myself and also my escape. I have had an affinity with music from a very young age and was in choirs, jazz bands and school productions from about 6. Writing came a little later, about aged 10. Then I started recording my songs when I was 15 at my local youth centre’s studio with these absolute legends Sam, Alex and Jez.
Q. How long have you been performing?
I think my first gig was when I was 15, it was at a Christian Easter camp, I really just went to meet new people and me and a group of young kids sung ‘Nothing is ever perfect’ to the whole camp on the last day, it was awesome.
Q. How would you describe your sound in one sentence?
Gritty, heart-wrenching rock ballads.
Q. What makes your music unique?
Because it’s honest and not afraid to talk about ugly or uncomfortable things yet still retains pop sensibilities and melodic hooks which I think is rare in pop these days.
Q. What inspires you to write songs?
A stirring in my gut, a pang pulled on the heart, an argument had, words you wish you’d said, trying to sing yourself out of a conflict inside. The same reasons any artist writes I suppose, because you have to.
Q. What have been your best and worst gig experiences?
Worst gig was in Newcastle, I had travelled for what let like eternity and played to about 4 people. Best gig was at my old uni to all the new freshers, it felt like in some small way I had found myself full circle and I knew from then on that my songs resonated. that it mattered & that no matter how slow I go, I was on the correct path.
Q. If you had to listen to one album for the rest of your life what would it be?
That’s impossible. Heavier Things by John Mayer, Grace by Jeff Buckley or Songs in A minor Stevie Wonder, oh or Blue Joni Mitchell.
Q. What do you get up to when you’re not making music?
I feel like 90% of what I do is the business of my music, I spend most of my time hustling, sending emails, on the phone, setting up meetings, booking every show, organising every rehearsal and the diaries of 5 other people, commissioning artwork, discussing concepts for music videos, talking ideas through with choreographers, stylists, improving my website, relentless social media engagement with my fan base. Only 10% feels creative. I can’t wait for that paradigm to shift. Outside of music, I love spending time with my family and my friends, movies, cocktails, walking, cooking, dancing, tequila, taking stupidly long baths- ha!
Q. What are your goals at the moment?
To be heard by people that can propel me to the next level and to meet and sing for new audiences and grow the fanbase in an intimate and grass roots fashion. To sign a publishing contract and have songs placed in Grey’s Anatomy. To spend some time observing songwriters and their craft in Nashville. To be a more powerful and technically able singer, to hone my writing craft, to learn more about the business. To travel. To start again.
Q. What have you been working on lately? Any new tracks or gigs lined up?
I’m about to release a new EP ‘Devoid of Rue’ first new material since 2011. I have 2 big EP launches with my live band that we’re relentlessly rehearsing for. I’m playing Underground and Warped tour festivals in the UK in Autumn and hoping to put together a little UK tour September/October time. I’m working with a Global sync agency on some brand placement opportunities, I’m setting up co-write sessions, I’m planning that Nashville trip and re-doing my website: www.elissafranceschi.com
Q. What do you think of Unsigned Band Review?
It’s great, they have been nothing but supportive and have championed me for a while now. They give great opps to musicians and encourage you to really reach out and pursue your fans, which I’m a huge advocate of.
Q. What is the name of the last track that you wrote and what is it about?
I think it was ‘All These Days’, which is the focus track off the EP purely because it’s a massive country pop track and feels so summery. Really it explores the notion of forgiving an old love, and how hard it is to get to that point. But really, after enough time has passed, you look at all the hurt and the anger from their eyes and you just know- they did the best they knew how to, at the time and so did you, so what's the point in dwelling on it. And then, what else is there but to forgive them but more importantly forgive yourself!! I’m so happy with it because it was the song that really helped me get over someone, it's bittersweet in that sense, check it out on Itunes June 24th 2013!
Q. What was the music scene like where you grew up?
For sing songwriters- barren. For rock/punk- huge.. look at my brother. However, I will say that a lot of my friends from school in Surrey have gone on to do fantastic things and really break through, AlunaGeorge, fIN. There's nothing more pleasing and encouraging that seeing someone you studied music with at school and do jazz band with get signed and blow up, makes you feel extremely proud and inspired.
