Bio
Born out of frustration and unbridled fascination, LUPINE BELL formed in the summer of 2011 with 3 members of various other projects of years gone by. They now exist to play pop music loud and sad. All three shared a commitment and belief in common, often frustratingly not easily found amongst smaller town musicians. The band incorporate influences such as The Smiths, Teenage Fanclub and Saves The Day, and their unique style injects an exciting buzz to the genre. The band announced an introduction via a small string of shows around their local area to an extremely encouraging audience response. They then spent the back end of 2011 and the front end of 2012 getting themselves prepared to enter the studio and make their recording debut, in the shape of a five song E.P. These tracks were soon snapped up by the likes of the BBC and other Radio stations across the country, who all started tipping the band for big things. The future is looking very bright for these three individuals and they are currently working harder than ever to build hype and cement themselves into the scene.

Q. How did you first get into playing music?
All members of Lupine Bell have played in bands with each other before, all playing and recording music since we were young. It has been the mainstay infatuation we are grateful to have ever since the tender early years of playing our instruments.
Q. How long have you been performing?
We have been together for one year, forming in the back end of the summer of 2011. Individually we have all been performing since the age of 14 onwards in various bands and projects. We formed the band in the confidence that the three of us all have adequate experience performing from a young age.
Q. How would you describe your sound in one sentence?
Pop music played loud and sad.
Q. What makes your music unique?
Our infatuation with punk and loud noisy bands is obvious in our sound. But that combined with our deep love of good classic pop music makes for an interesting and unique cauldron of sounds in song. We present in our sound a generation of kids that not only grew up on British indie rock from the nineties, but American hardcore punk, 60's rock and roll and new wave pop punk from the early 2000's. What makes us unique is our perpetual desire to romance this music (and more) from all corners of our record collection. We deliver you something that on paper may read as a medley of things too far apart, makes you look twice, but to us it sounds as natural as the way our records sit next to each other.
Q. What inspires you to write songs?
Disillusionment with ourselves and the things around us, a suspicious Lacanian dread of the world, boys & girls of all shapes and thought, being persistent old world romantics in an ever changing game. I would never say 'everything' as answer but I would say a lot gets absorbed into that arena from day to day. A healthy dose of neuroticism also never goes amiss in song writing.
Q. What have been your best and worst gig experiences?
As Lupine Bell we've been quite fortunate and we've not had really any horror stories for gigs yet (long may the day be delayed) but we recently played a gig in London and it was great atmosphere and great energy, so it would be the best pick of the bunch. Individually we have all had previous terrible gigs. Ranging from a semi-circle of 40 people giving us the thumbs down to equipment and sound going terrible awry.
Q. If you had to listen to one album for the rest of your life what would it be?
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Q. What do you get up to when you’re not making music?
Listening to music, reading, smoking cigarettes, discussions over political and historical matters, playing snooker & darts, sports that are not pub sports, critiquing film.
Q. What are your goals at the moment?
Our goals are to play as many shows as we possibly can, discover and explore more of this country by playing music. We will be writing for an album and recording next year. Getting more people listening to our music and growing a bigger fan base.
Q. What have you been working on lately? Any new tracks or gigs lined up?
We are always writing songs so as we've had a tiny break between playing gigs we've been doing that as of very recently. Our upcoming gigs will be 1st November at King Billy in Northampton, also in Bedford in the next few months. We are playing Oxjam in Reading come this Saturday (20th October) so we are keeping ourselves busy.
Q. What do you think of Unsigned Band Review?
We couldn't be happier that something like UBR exists because now more than ever, the internet should be used to help unsigned bands get a foothold in the industry. It's just great to have something that gives you the scope and ability to push your music forward and out there. When the internet came along, all the rules changed within the music industry and now things are so vastly different compared to how they were 10 years ago. Having and using UBR can only be encouraging to bands like us.
Q. What is the name of the last track that you wrote and what is it about?
We have a tentative names for new songs, this one is 'Dead, Gone'. It's about the hard conclusions you come to about your character, dreadful traits about yourself that you ignore in pursuit of chasing the ideal version of your life.
Q. What was the music scene like where you grew up?
Milton Keynes had a thriving music scene in the early to mid noughties. Small for the size of the town but a good crowd and a lot of teenagers and kids involved with it (never, ever a bad thing). It was largely punk rock and third wave ska. It died out when venues closed; it really did fall apart in a very sad way. We have a small group of promoters that fight the good fight but it's mostly gigs in bars and such a massive gulf away from the scene we grew up in, certainly. We're a big fan of all ages shows and getting the young crowd involved, I think purely because of our background. It's a very sad affair and it's well known around these parts.

Smooth rebel-rock with a new wave touch. It's Milton Keynes's answer to Green Day. The punchy production is fine, but the brattish attitude yields diminishing returns after a while. "I don't care at all," they insist, although the voices shouting out from all corners of the mix - about a girl who isn't quite making it happen for the Lupines - sound as if they care quite a lot. It's a good sound, but a lot of mixed messages for one song.

Describing themselves as 'garage punk-inspired pop', Lupine Bell definitely pack a punch with new single 'Hiss'. The attitude in the song makes it perfect for Alternative Rock fans. Definitely worth listening if you love some rough-edged Rock.

More energy per crotchet than most other brands. I like. You can't deny this sort of commitment and snottiness. There's some melody too so the Window Cleaners can whistle. It's proper punk really and I for one would be happy to pogo to this in the 100 Club. Hope they have enough ideas to take this further in time - but for now this is just fine. Where's my Johnny Thunders T shirt ?
