  • Secret Agent - The Sheiks have managed to be the most unique and individual sounding band I've heard in a while. They have astoundingly merged a pop-indie sound with an exotic reggae influence. This changes the way their instruments are played, as the guitar presents a mixture of sweet, Caribbean melodies and raspy, guttery sounds of indie music. The drums equally mix pounding reggae beats with fast indie percussive rhythms, while the vocals leap and soar through the two musical styles. The best thing about The Sheiks is how raw they sound. It makes them fresh, new and exciting - a band at their most energetic best.

  • Secret Agent - A sniff of ska, a splash of Emo - all in all, a great rock song. Finally, a band who knows how to do a reggae breakdown properly.

  • (Review of Young Electrics' MySpace and a number of their tracks) Firstly- they should try and get some better photos it is difficult to see what they look like with just the live shots. I really like their sound and they are obviously great musicians but nothing stands out to me at the moment. It is all kind of... quite generic sounding. Even though the guitarist is good- it is nothing out of the ordinary and the hooks aren't stand out either. They definitely need to develop their songs a bit more. Their inspiration sounds like it is The Kooks- but the Kooks have great hooks, and they have had lessons in song writing [don't forget!]. It is really difficult to recreate standard rock n roll which is what The Young Electrics seem to be doing. They sound like they are trying to do old style rock n roll and it seems quite obvious what your influences are. So as for some tips from this end- maybe try and expand your influences to something a bit more exciting or edgy. Try and look outside of standard rock n roll, so that your sound is not too boxed in. Listen to the hooks in songs from some successful existing songs so you can firmly get into your head why it is a successful song- it is all about great hooks. Just to summarise- I really like this band and I look forward to hearing some more songs from them through UBR. They are great but need to work hard on their song writing. The band should see this is as a very exciting exercise because they have got a lot of potential. Improving the songs is the key at this stage.

  • Caught in the Rain - Almost militaristic drumming breaks for, and introduces a sparky little indie track – I could listen to this over and over again. And have.

  • I liked the guitar at the beginning, that was great, and his tone.

  • A well-recorded demo, or full-track, or whatever you want to call it. It sounded good. It sounded great. And the vocalist, I like his voice. It’s definitely distinctive, and it’s got a character. A little bit James Dean Bradfield, but that’s his voice, that’s how it sounds. A good tune, but not the chorus didn’t quite... It wasn’t like yep, there’s the chorus. It was kind of just like a good part in the song, so I think a little bit more work on the actual song and the parts of the song. They’re a good band, they play well, good players. Good players.

  • Indie Rock crossover that sucks in some "progressive elements". Somehow the singer reminds me of Geddy Lee which may not go down to well with the band! It's not overly original but I'm rather liking it anyway. At least it sounds like they put some time in practising before going into the studio.

  • (Review of Young Elecrtics' MySpace) If you book us, we will come' - I'm not sure what this means? They only have one gig forthcoming, so maybe best to direct people towards the quality of the music than immediately be canvassing for work. I'm listening to 'Molly', the most popular track on their MySpace player. To be honest I am straining to hear it a little, I think it's been recorded at a low quality. The vocals are well constructed and also have a really nice flow, but the band aren't doing themselves any favours in relying on low quality mp3's to attract promoters.

  • Wicked guitar on Light My Fuse....if they could go down this route then they could be a very interesting band.
