Summer may be long gone but you can close your eyes and pretend you’re not soaking wet and freezing as Headliners Gecko take to the stage.
Since they came into our lives, things have got a whole lot sunnier, possessing an energy as infectious and engaging as their tunes.When we first discovered their profile it felt like stepping out onto a gloriously golden beach and having a Pina Colada thrust in our hand. Or should we say Guanabana Juice… yeah, Gecko have a bit of a fixation on that particular beverage. In fact, there’s a whole track about it, as well as being cited as one of the group’s main creative influences. Well, alongside tropical rhythms, playful lyricisms, reggae, samba, indie, hip hop, afro-beat and punk- it doesn’t get more eclectic than this.
Another source of inspiration for Gecko’s creative groove are the vibrant surroundings of their homeland, London town. When we first noticed a surge of fans hitting ‘like’ on the lads’ profile, we thought we’d better get them down for a Webstival session.
As well as that unplugged performance of ‘Pigeon’, we also had a chat with them about the influence of the Capital on their songwriting:
The next stop for Gecko was our insane-looking stage at London 2012. Having got over fifty of their fans following their Emerging Icons profile, it was here that we discovered that the crowds loved them just as much as we did. They worked their audience and got them moving- and they made one of the best atmospheres we experienced during our time at the Games. They loved the stage too- even if they couldn't agree on what it reminded them of... here they are backstage in the Olympic Park:
When they returned to join us at the Paralympics, we were keen to show them off to our VIP guest, Olympian gymnast Louis Smith. He thought their stuff was perfect listening for summer and looked chuffed to pick up one of their albums.
With their inclusion on our second album that’s due for release, the hard work and dedication of this talented band will certainly continue to see them going places. You just watch!
