SO HERE ARE OUR FIVE TIPS FOR LIVE MUSIC FROM OUR EMERGING ICONS NEXT WEEK...
The super-chilled synth enthusiasts hit the iconic Mancunian venue supporting Norwegian-slash-Londoners Like Spinning. The duo have had something of a vintage year in their musical career, forming the group from the ashes of Mayhew, to then pop their live performance cherry on the Emerging Icons stage at the Olympics. That's more diving into the deep end than even Tom Daley himself could manage. This gig marks their development into becoming part of Manchester's sublime musical heritage and is one not to be missed.
Another of our London 2012 line-up are making their way across the choppy seas from Ireland for a handful of dates in the north of the UK. Tonight's gig comes from some of the most picturesque surroundings the highlands have to offer- live from a lovely watering hole that provides a little shelter from the Great Outdoors. It's seen performances from Frightened Rabbit, Admiral Fallow and Roddy Woomble before now- and it'll make for the perfect vibe to match ODi's beautifully organic folky sounds. Get a pint of the black stuff in to make them feel at home.
We weren't sure if we were going crazy when images of Pet Shop Boys and Europop nightclubs popped into our heads when we first listened to Paolo Albertazzi's music. But then when we saw that he was in a Club Fabulous line-up at Mother Live, we realised that we were actually perfectly right. The moment you meet Paolo you enter a world of disco balls, glittering melodies and unbridled dancing. This is electronica pop at it's most unabashed, inhibition-free best. Go along and leave your snobbery at the door- because this is all about drinking cocktails with sparklers and having fun.
North Devonshire freehouse The Thatch is a gaff after our own hearts. Keen to push and promote fresh new talent, they showcase fantastic new acts- and this week Emerging Icons' very own Centrefolds make an appearance. We've got into their stuff in a big way, their belting tune 'Alright'giving us a generous hit of the melodic indie twang we've come to love from acts like Two Door Cinema Club. Their stylish and infectious hooks will definitely go down a treat with this music-loving crowd.
If you can't get down to Devon then maybe you can try for Lewisham at least. The indie rock will be flowing nicely on Friday night- perfect for sinking a few beers to. Not in that depressing way... but in the way which will encourage you to convert those restrained head nods of approval into some bold, staccato dance moves. Yeah, that's the spirit! As well as some tasty rhythm-friendly tunes to get stuck into, there promises to be energy in abundance on stage too... so make sure you've there to get involved.
Make sure you're back here next week to get the next Top Five Emerging Icons Live and you'll never have to go without a good gig again...
